Life can be hard. Long trials can leave a person feeling desolate, hopeless, and often questioning, ‘where is God in all this’. One could get lost in that abyss of despair but the Bible offers a refreshing perspective and groundbreaking hope, proclaiming that God is near to the broken-hearted, famishes the strength of those who are strong, and has plans to prosper us not to harm us. If you’ve been on a torturous journey of abuse and trials, no matter the lengthy journey, there is a way to give it all to God and find peace and healing. Let’s embark on this spiritual journey to unearth the treasures of God’s word together.
- Release your burdens to God (Psalm 55:2)
- “Casting your cares on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.” This Psalm signifies releasing your hardships to God. It was penned during a time of great upheaval in David’s life, where he was wrought by personal loss, death threats, and betrayal from a close friend. David’s choice to give his burden to God provided him endurance throughout his trials. The same principle applies to us when we face life-changing trials. God’s embracing arms are always open, ready to lighten our load.
- God values your tears (Psalm 56:8)
- “You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?” Although penned during one of David’s darkest hours when he was seized by the Philistines in Gath, this verse beautifully depicts God’s overwhelming concern for us during our trials. The metaphor of God collecting our tears in a bottle exhibits His intimate awareness of our sorrows, affirming that every single tear shed in pain matters to Him.
- God is a refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1)
- “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” This verse consistently resonates with people undergoing intense trials. It was written during a distressing time when Jerusalem was under attack. These words reveal a promise that God is our sanctuary, a place of safety and rest during chaos. His strength carries us through painful trials, and His presence is unyielding.
- God is near to the broken-hearted (Psalm 34:18)
- “The Lord is near to the broken-hearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” The verse encapsulates the essence of God’s understanding and closeness during our times of suffering. King David wrote this Psalm after he had been on the run to escape King Saul. It assures us that God is by our side, especially when we feel broken and crushed.
In threading through these verses, we are reminded that it is not about forgetting or dismissing the pain from abuse or trials. Rather, by giving them to God, we allow God’s divine power to carry, heal, and transform our pain. No matter the length or depth of your trials, remember, you are not alone – God is walking with you. His desire is not merely to erase our pain but to help us grow, refine us, and mold us in it and beyond it. So cast your cares on Him, for He cares for you profoundly (1 Peter 5:7).
